with  Byakko (Hase no Oka) in the west 

and a blue dragon (Namerikawa river) in the east.

This iron-walled figure can be likened to a horseshoe.

In this horseshoe, the clothing, food and shelter necessary for the city develops,

When he looked up for the first time in a few hours, it was Yuigahama, 

which was a picture of the setting sun.

It's been a long time since he stepped on the ground in Kamakura.

An orange road stretched toward him from the sun to the ocean.

It felt like a delicate arm of Tathagata presented to greet him.

At that moment, Myohkun's consciousness ascended like evaporating water.

It is Just Daigo(enlightenment).

All the frustrations, insistences, impatiences, and jealousies 

that have been so far have sublimated.

It exists from head to foot, but this is the appearance of a scale.

The tiny roots make up the body, the surroundings, and the universe.

At a moment mind and body is destined to continue to have conflicts,

The root is free to sway.

Beyond the stars in the night sky,

To the warm hands of my grandmother that day

To despair on the bed last night,

He can get there as much as he wants.

And to the teachings of Buddha.

頼朝は完全風水による難攻不落を目指してこの地を選んだ。

地図の通り幕府を置いた土地は三方を山で囲まれ

攻め込むには北西の巨福呂、北東の朝比奈、東の名越、西の長谷を抑えたら

あとは海からしか攻めようがない。

これが風水的には完璧で、北に玄武(六国見山の山)、南に朱雀(由比ヶ浜の海)、

西に白虎(長谷の丘)、東に青龍(滑川の川)をすべて備える。

鉄壁なこの姿は馬蹄に例えてもいい。

この馬蹄の中では都に必要な衣食住が展開し、

開幕以降次々に開基され一級の層を招いて開山された寺社へは師を訪ねて

材木座の船着き場を使い沢山の渡来僧が修行にやってきた。

当時なりの極彩色を施した寺社やいわば留学生の活気ある異国語が溢れ

今の小町通りのようにさぞ賑やかだっただったのだろうと察する。


冬の暖かい日、コーヒーカップとともに外に出る。

バルコニーから見える馬蹄形の奥深いところ、

鶴岡八幡宮の上を白鳩の群れが旋回を繰り返す。

甍の連なりはいつしか視界から薄れ、

千年昔のいち僧への妄想が去来してきた。


僧・明薫は元の港から20日間かけて鎌倉にやってきた。

建長寺開山・蘭渓道隆を訪ねての来日だ。

途中何度もシケに合いやっとの思いで鎌倉の地を踏んだ。

行李ひとつに身の回りのものを詰め脇に抱え門を叩く。

まだ木肌新しいがしっかりと拭き磨き上げられた床を歩くと気が引き締まる。

来る日も来る日もこの床を磨いた。

鉢を持ち家々を托鉢で廻った。

仏の教えを唱え、自身の意識とのズレに何度も向き合い、

眼には見えない真理に発熱するほど考えをめぐらし、

未達の自分に嫌気を塗り込みまくり、

ある日、笠より上に視線を上げることもできず

うなだれながらも経を唱えながら歩き続けると、

いつしか砂利の道は砂に変わった。

数時間ぶりに視線を上げるとそこは夕日を写した由比ヶ浜だった。

鎌倉の地を踏んだあの日以来久しぶりの海だった。

海原に太陽から一筋、橙色の道が自分に向かって伸びてきていた。

それは迎えるように差し出された如来の細やかな腕のように感じられた。

その瞬間、明薫の意識は蒸発する水のように昇天した。

大悟である。

これまでの挫折も拘りも焦燥も嫉妬もすべて無に昇華した。

自身は頭から足まで存在するが、これはかりそめの姿である。

微小な根本が身を構成し、周囲を構成し、宇宙を構成する。

かりそめは葛藤を持ち続ける宿命だが、

根本は自由にたゆたう。

夜空の星の更にその先へ、

あの日の祖母の温かい手へ、

昨日の寝床での絶望へ、

いくらでもたどり着くことができる。

そして仏の教えへも。

目を開けると太陽は稲村ヶ崎に落ちようとしていた。


バルコニーから見える太陽も長谷の山に近づいている。

2月の17:00はさすがに肌寒い。

日に当てていたシクラメンの鉢とコーヒーカップを持って

部屋へと戻った。

妄想の僧は誰だったのだろうか?
